LinuxWorld #1

The conference was at a convention center in downtown San Jose.

The last time I had been in San Jose was 13 years previously when I was visiting relatives with my father. The city had changed beyond recognition. First Street now has a light rail, and riding it you go past a veritable who's who of computer-company headquarters, in between which are huge government buildings and arts facilities covering a whole block each. Lots and lots of money here, but it is put into function and art rather than gaudiness. Still, it's stiflingly suburban; you feel that spending even one night here is one night lost of your life. If only it weren't 60 miles and a 2-hour commute (each way) from San Francisco!
