Came back Sunday night from Vancouver BC (where I had been for the weekend) and found out that the protests had started a day early. Some people had taken over an abandoned house on First Hill and intended to provide housing for out-of-town protesters for a week, and were then hoping to turn it over to a nonprofit group for the homeless. The police decided not to intervene. At first they shut off the electricity and water, and then turn it on again. The fire dept wants to inspect the building for safety; the residents say no weapons are allowed inside, including police guns.
